So, you’ve finally scheduled a professional photography session for your dog. While your photographer is preparing on their end, you need to do some preparing too.
Here are a few tips that will help you get your pooch camera ready.
Schedule a grooming session
Every dog’s grooming needs are different, but if you generally do schedule grooming sessions for your dog, it’s best to do it in advance. For example, your dog’s eyes should be free of excessive hair that makes them look scruffy, and nails should be trimmed for the occasion. It’s best not to schedule your grooming and photography session on the same day.
Give them a bath
It’s almost impossible to keep your dog clean for more than a few days, which is why it’s generally best to bathe them on the day of their session, ensuring their coat looks shiny and fresh. Pet grooming wipes do come in handy on the day of your shoot.
Brush up on basic commands
While this is not a must, it might help get your dog to practice sitting and lying down in exchange for treats. You may also want to see how long you can get them to sit still in the weeks leading up to the photo session.
Expend some energy
If you have a high-energy pup, it’s a good idea to let them expend some of that energy before their photo session – head to the park or doggy daycare for an hour or two before you come to your shoot. This is not to say that you should wear them out completely, though, because capturing their unique personality is a part of the experience. On the other hand, if you have an older dog, you may want to make it a relaxing morning for them to have some energy for the shoot.
Feed them something small
Your pup should never be hungry during their shoot, or they may be restless and a little less willing to cooperate. You should also bring a few treats or their favorite toy along with you to use during your shoot.
Bring a few accessories.
Since you may want to incorporate a few extras into your shoot, bring a water bowl and their best leash and collar to the shoot too.
