Sweet Summertime has arrived along with all the fun things like heading to the beach, lake, picnics, cookouts, celebrations, and the HEAT!
Let's not forget during these hot summer months to protect our pets. We are going to share some tips and tricks to help keep your pet cool and comfy this summer.
Did you know that pets are more vulnerable to heat exhaustion than us?
*NEVER leave them in a parked vehicle, in the bed of a pickup outside in the direct sun. Temperatures can rise to dangerous levels in a very short amount of time.
*Keep them cool and hydrated. Hydration is essential, so make sure to have plenty of fresh water during the summer. Bring along water and a portable dog bowl for walks and trips.
*Heatstroke is extremely dangerous for dogs, so watch out for signs of excessive panting, vomiting, staggering, high body temps, dark or bright red tongue and gums. Seek medical attention as quickly as possible.
*Protect your pet's paws and sensitive skin by ensuring they have enough shade and avoid walking on hot pavement and sand. You can help protect them from the sun with a dog-safe sunscreen.
*Fireworks. Celebrations. Safety for your pet.
While we might enjoy the beautiful fireworks, your pet may not be a fan. It's best to leave your pets safely indoors, with the radio or tv playing to help comfort them from the noise. Make sure your yard is secure just in case a neighbor sets off a firework unannounced. And always have identification tags on your pet, microchip info registered and up to date, and a recent photo.
*Pupsicles & Treats!
Don't forget those cool treats this summer. We make a lot of summer treats, and you can find some great easy recipes at Rover.com. If we buy store-bought an excellent go-to is Frosty Paws, you can find them at most grocery stores.
We hope this tips help make your summer pawsitively awesome!
